AFarCloud – Autonomous Farming & IoT Technologies | Rodolfo Grimani

Rodolfo Grimani actively participated in the AFarCloud project, bringing Ro Technology’s expertise in IoT and blockchain technologies for intelligent and autonomous agriculture. His contribution supported the integration of sensors, environmental data collection, and food traceability in line with the European goals for sustainable digital transformation in agri-food systems.

Acronym: AFarCloud
Start date: 01/09/2018 End date: 31/08/2021

Budget: € 28.125.391,26

Funding source: ECSEL Joint Undertaking, Grant Agreement N° 783221

Project objectives: AFarCloud will provide a distributed platform for autonomous farming that will allow the integration and cooperation of agriculture Cyber Physical Systems in real-time in order to increase efficiency, productivity, animal health, food quality and reduce farm labour costs. This platform will be integrated with farm management software and will support monitoring and decision-making solutions based on big data and real-time data mining techniques.

Key technologies involved: Cloud services, GIS and GIS-enabled DB, IoT, containerization with Docker, Blockchain, Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, drones and ground vehicle automation.

Ro Technology output/expected output: In AS05 and in AS11 Ro Technology installed IoT sensors to collect and analyse environmental data. The sensors are shown on a GIS-based dashboard from where all data can be retrieved. In AS05, in the greenhouse, blockchain technology is also used to store data (ensuring data integrity) and to provide a traceability system for organic food products.
